Forum: Don't just blame the government

Wed, 05/21/2008 10:43 AM  |  Reader's Forum

The beauty of the state administration in Indonesia rest with the three pillars: the executive, the judicature and the legislature.

Each has its own responsibility -- the executive executes the laws, the judicature decides if a party is guilty or not and the legislature drafts the laws.

Sometimes explicit stipulation of the law is manipulated by various scheme of ownership either directly or indirectly. This modus can not be to said to directly violate the law unless it is the judicial verdict.

So it is not correct to argue that the government, as the executor of the law, observes and decides that some parties violate the law, because it is within the jurisdiction of judicial system in Indonesia.

So, write following the established system, don't just blame the government for all situations. This is not fair to the people of Indonesia who voted for the current president.

Court ruling on Temasek -- May 13, p. 2

This is typical of an opinion representing the pathetic western liberal-minded-yet-kept-turned away Indonesian mentality. Please take into account your Indonesian readers, who are now making up the vast majority of your readers and are fed up with globalization and neoliberalism. Why can't our country have our own pride?

PLN and billboards in the city

Congratulations to state-owned electricity company PLN Jakarta for their plan to turn off power to billboards at night. These waste scarce resources and this is a great step forward toward conservation. I hope the company does it to all billboards across the country.

ASEAN and Myanmar

ASEAN is the second most responsible body after the Myanmar military regime over the sluggish aid flow to the country hit by disaster.

Shame on the following: the Myanmar military regime, all the countries in ASEAN and in the United Nations (especially China, Russia, and South Africa).

Instead of depoliticizing the situation and delivering humanitarian assistance, there have been diplomatic negotiations for over a week, resulting in more deaths.
