RI humanitarian aid for Chinese quake victims have arrived

Two Indonesian aircraft carrying humanitarian aid for Chinese quake victims in Sichuan province have arrived separately Friday and Saturday.

The Air Force C-130 Hercules transport aircraft arrived Saturday at the Chengdu airport carrying one ton of food, three tons of medicine and three tons of tents.

Manunggal Air's Boeing 727-200 freighter arrived earlier on Friday evening carrying a total of 19 tons of aid.

"The humanitarian aid from the Indonesian government to Chinese people affected by the disaster, reflects our solidarity," Indonesian Ambassador to China Sudrajat said when welcoming the humanitarian team.

"The government of China has expressed its high appreciation for Indonesia's concern to help victims of the disaster.

Sudrajat handed over the aid to Huang Youming, deputy director of Sichuan foreign affairs department.

When the tsunami hit Aceh province in 2004, China was among the many countries that sent humanitarian aid to Aceh. He said tents were badly needed by the refugees.

"China needs at least one million tents to accommodate refugees. The local government had encouraged tent makers to increase their production," Sudrajat said.

In addition to food, medicines and tents, Indonesia would also send a medical team to help refugees in Lanzhou, Gansu Province. (****)
