Letter: City wants its own Orchard Road

Every morning I pass Prof Dr. Satrio Street, where there is a green belt from Casablanca Apartment up to Satrio building. It's nice to see how green areas can still be found in Jakarta.

However, in front of the Manhattan Hotel up to ITC City, the Jakarta administration is digging and cutting the green belt and making it a part of the road instead. It's very sad that no one seems to care.

I hope that through this letter The Jakarta Post will invite other institutions, who can, to do some feasibility study or anything that could stop the plan before it is too late.

There will be a new building in the Casablanca area similar to Casablanca city, Kuningan City and Ciputra World. I hope the government would start an organization to focus on city planning and the environment, and not only on IMBs (building permits). Also, the organization should look at how we can live and work in a green environment.

Developers have to start keeping the green belt in the middle of the road as a divider. They shouldn't cut the trees down just for their comfort and convenience or in their interest. They have to cut their own land to give us easy access and not traffic jam, but they should keep the green belt in front of their property.

I need The Jakarta Post to help this issue and for it to become a topic to discuss about.
