Aceh invites investors to develop its geothermal potentials

The Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) provincial administration is inviting investors to develop geothermal energy in Sabang and Aceh Besar districts to overcome the province's energy crisis, a
local energy affairs official says.

NAD has geothermal energy potential, but they are yet to be developed and exploited properly, said Sofyan Basri, provincial energy and mineral resources office head, in Aceh on Thursday.

Sofyan hoped investors would sink capital into NAD's energy sector, particularly geothermal energy.

He said geothermal energy sources in Aceh could be developed to produce electricity.

If investors are able to develop the geothermal potentials well, they could sell the energy to state electricity company PT PLN to help overcome the power crisis, he said.

"We hope to be approached by investors who are able to develop the local geothermal energy sources in the near future to meet the province's electricity demand," Basri said.(**)
