ADPARA>Doesn't the President have the right to look into any matter? So what if it's scientifically impossible? At least he had a look.

IAN HAMILTON

What an embarrassing scandal which embarrassed this country! How can water be changed into fuel? Our President was really fooled and cheated by this controversial project.

In my opinion, as a person who holds a doctorate, he was wrong and carelessly encouraged the impossible mission of Blue Energy. Or perhaps at that moment, he was in such despair and frustrated, so he couldn't think clearly that it's impossible to turn water into fuel.

It is better that President SBY gives his interest to what Joko Suprapto did rather than to the scientists (LIPI or others) who are NATO (No Action Talk Only). They won't do anything unless there is funding/subsidy for them.

Regardless of the scientific or the mystical background of his invention, at least Joko tried to do something for this country.

In Indonesia, a doctorate is nothing to do with intelligence or academic achievement, but more on money, relations or position in the government.

No wonder a few years ago, several generals with very heavy and tight schedules easily got a doctorate. Just buy theses from someone and pay some money to the university that issues the degree.

I admire SBY's approach on Blue Energy. In fact, my son has been pestering me for months about a similar H2O energy. I fully agree to facilitate Joko to help him expand his noble experiment.

The Jakarta Post was fooled too by the Blue Energy hoax!

It is OK for the President to believe that one day water can fuel our cars, but he shouldn't have made it public, especially right after he increased fuel prices.

ANDOKO DARTA

It's not a hoax. I've been working on electrolysis for years. Like in many other countries worldwide, the big cover-up is still very much active, despite global warming!

MADE

It would not be difficult to present this hoax in a way that would convince most people, so I think the President can be forgiven for buying into it. I can't imagine his scientific advisers being fooled by it, however, so I'm surprised that the idea got as far as it did.

It is technologically very simple to separate water into its component parts -- oxygen and hydrogen -- but to do so requires a lot of electrical energy. The output of "blue energy" you might get from this hydrogen will be much less than the input of electrical energy used to split the water in the first place. It is as futile as using electricity to turn water into steam then using a steam turbine to generate electricity.

When I first read about the Blue Energy scheme I assumed it was someone's idea of a joke. So why did the President's scientific advisers take it so seriously?

DAVID BOOTH

Jakarta

It's so embarrassing for the President to plainly buy into someone's bright invention of making much-needed fuel out of water. It takes many Habibies to realize that, Mr. President. You know what, sir, something too good is bad.

SUTOYO J SUSANTO

Jakarta

SBY relies on his staff to filter the information he receives. I think it was the staff's fault for letting blue energy get onto SBY's agenda.

MADE MARKO

Tuban, Bali

Don't we have the Indonesian Institutes of Sciences (LIPI), the office of the state minister for research and technology, with its Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), to do the necessary checking for such controversial findings?

Or it was just a sign that SBY doesn't believe in the two institutions? So far SBY's administration hasn't shown any commitment to develop an alternative and renewable energy project at all. And now, instead of initiating something that makes sense like microhydro, wind or solar energy, he supported this out of the blue "Blue Energy". Just unbelievable that our President was so easily fooled by that man. Where are LIPI and BPPT!

A. MARSIANA

Yogyakarta

Monumental research usually begins from a "mad man". So, we needn't worry about SBY's support for the Blue Energy project.

YAYAT SUDRAJAT

Yogyakarta

That's not bad at all. As a President of course he should support any possibility of resolving the energy problems.

NURAZMI

Dumai, Riau

It's really unbelievable, he should contact the state minister for research and technology before going ahead with such decisions.
