President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (right) received the credentials on Tuesday of Lebanon's ambassador to Indonesia, Victor Jusuf El Zmeter, and four other new envoys during a ceremony at the State Palace in Jakarta.
Other new ambassadors presenting their credentials to the President were (from left to right) Kojiro Shiojiri of Japan, Ibrahim Baba Mai-Sule of Nigeria, Biren Nanda of India and Martin Alan Hatfull of the United Kingdom.
Also in attendance were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda, State Secretary Hatta Radjasa and Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi.
Before his posting in Jakarta, Ambassador Hatfull was a minister at the UK's embassy in Tokyo from 2003 to 2007, and a counselor for economic and commercial affairs in Rome.
He was also the first secretary at the UK's permanent representation to the European Union in Brussels from 1991 to 1995.
Ambassador Shiojiri was previously the deputy vice minister in charge of management, budget, personnel and parliamentary relations at Japan's foreign affairs ministry.
Shiojiri also served as envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary at the Japanese diplomatic mission in the United States from 2003 to 2005.
Ambassador Nanda of India served since 2004 as joint secretary (south) at India's ministry of external affairs, overseeing the country's relations with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members, excluding Myanmar, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. --JP/Desy Nurhayati
