Your comments on the nomination of Barack Obama as the U.S. presidential candidate for the Democratic Party and the future of Indonesia-U.S. relations if he is elected U.S. president.
Oh C'mon, I bet he doesn't remember anything. What he remembers is probably only that he went to a school in Indonesia, that is it. So please, don't ever think that he is attached to Indonesia.

I'm not optimistic that there will be a significant impact on Indonesia-U.S. relations if Obama is elected president. It needs more than childhood memories to influence a country's foreign policy.

Indonesians tend to see things that aren't there. I can't wait for the endless mulling over how his stepfather was an Indonesian and the reruns of the guided tour of his classroom on TV. Don't get your hopes up people.

I think if Obama becomes the president, we won't have a direct impact on such issues as cutting our debt, and they don't want to talk about human rights.
But I trust they will be more concerned about how to recover their domestic economy. So Indonesia can take this advantage although indirectly. We can increase our exports.

If Obama is elected President, the Indonesia-U.S.relations will obviously improve. The real question now is whether he will give Indonesia special attention.

I think there will have a strong impact on the Indonesia-U.S. relationship if Obama is elected U.S. President, particularly on education and culture.
With education, Indonesian will have to learn U.S. science and technology, which has been a leading the world, particularly for space and satellite use for communications.
With culture, the United States and Indonesia will be able to develop a better bilateral relationship, for example, through youth exchange programs. So there will be a better relationship between the two great nations.

Obama election will affect the Indonesia-U.S. relations in a good way. But it's not because he has been in Indonesia. It's because he has a conscience that Bush lacks.

There will be no significant impact if he is elected U.S president.

Spending his childhood in Indonesia, Obama knows a little bit about Islam as well as Muslim people. It'll decrease the hatred toward Muslims and the tension between the two countries.

I'm so happy and I fully support the nomination of Barack Obama for U.S president. I hope that if he is elected U.S. president he will totally change his country's policies, especially regarding the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and restore its relationship with other countries.
It's time for America under Barack's administration to open and begin a new page, with more respect for other countries' sovereignty.

I love Obama's thoughts about equality, justice and prosperity, which are not only for Americans but also for the rest of the world. If he is elected U.S president, I believe he will create a new chapter for Indonesia-U.S. relationship. It will be warmer, closer and more respectful. Good luck Barry.
