Summer promo at Four Seasons Jakarta

There are many ways to celebrate summer in Jakarta -- if you accept there is such a thing as "summer" here -- and for The Four Seasons Jakarta, the best way is to serve up culinary and pampering specials.

A promotion for those who like to eat their way through summer is the "Live Fish and Seafood Sensation" at Lai Ching restaurant, which offers several types of fresh fish.

Lai Ching is an ideal place to have a business lunch. What's more, diners at Lai Ching do not have to worry about how much fat they're taking in, as all the dishes are designed to be healthy.

"This time we are preparing a great selection of seafood. There are so many kinds of fish in Indonesia that taste great. However, most of what we offer is imported because foreigners are able to pay more," said executive chef Vindex Tengker.

But now, he said, more and more fish are becoming available from local suppliers.

The Jakarta Post was invited to the restaurant for lunch. Lai Ching served its Micoshientang soup with Bangkok catfish and kee chee (Chinese plum) as a starter. The starter was delightful thanks to its delicate balance of sweet and sour (apple and Chinese plum).

"We deep fry and then steam the fish for four hours in order to extract the flavor and juice," we were told.

Our second dish -- grouper with chili -- was close to perfection, and I just couldn't get enough of either the fish or the sauce. Following that, we had the Japanese pomfret with mushroom tofu and oyster sauce.

Other options on the a la carte menu are Sri Lankan crab with special chili sauce and steamed gingered bamboo clam or fresh scallops.

The main dish was the pearl lobster fried rice, which I had with the hotel's famous homemade XO sauce.

"The XO sauce itself is so tasty that you can eat it with steamed rice only," Vindex said.

The live fish and seafood promo lasts until June 30.

But perhaps you want less of the surf and more of the turf?

The Steak House at the hotel is offering "Fresh Summer Truffle" until July 6. Indulge your palate in the delicate flavor of fresh summer truffle de la Saint Jean direct from France.

Chef Vindex has prepared a selection of special dishes such as porcini and wild mushroom soup with black truffle crostini, baked myrtle salmon with shaved black truffle, veal scallopini with roast pumpkin risotto, and black truffle and foie gras ravioli jus.

The kitchen also serves Ranger Valley 300-day-old Black Angus medallions with black truffle and foie gras ravioli.

If you want an astounding combination, they also offer "It's a 'Me' Moment", which offers the combination of a spa session and a set lunch created by the executive chef himself.

Guests begin their day with a choice of skin treatment -- "Energy" or "Escape" -- which is a massage to increase blood flow, release toxins and allow your body to heal naturally. You can relax and enjoy a manicure and pedicure called "Glam" treatment. And once you're feeling fresh and groomed, "Vindex's Twist" is a set lunch that comes after the spa.
