Three children under the age of five have died from HIV/AIDS in Malang District, East Java, in the past three years.
The three babies were infected with the HIV/AIDS virus whilst in their HIV/AIDS-infected mothers' wombs, Malang health service head Dr. Agus Wahyu Arifin said here on Monday.
"In 2005, one died of HIV/AIDS, another in 2007, and the last one died just recently, less than seven days ago," he said.
New-born babies usually do not survive the HIV-AIDS infection because they do not have a proper immune system, he said.
Since 1991, Malang has recorded 232 HIV/AIDS cases, with most patients aged between 25 and 50, he said.(**)
