SMS: Flight delay compensation

Your comments on the recent ministerial decree that orders airlines to compensate passengers for flight delays.

Even regulations will not be effective in compensation for flight delays. The transportation minister decree is just lip service. Forget it.

They should offer compensation to those who wait for hours at airports for families and friends too.

Yes, such compensation should be enforced. Some airlines are so unreasonable, with four to eight-hour delays. That's a lot of time and energy wasted just waiting and doing nothing.

I don't know how the new law reads but I hope it won't drive the airlines to fly with problems and unclean planes just to save up money for accommodation expenses.

Sometimes delays cannot be avoided as we are dealing with weather, machines, people, airport control and a terribly inefficient government.

I just hope they have been fair to the airlines, otherwise we'll pay another price for flying.

Due to the high frequency of flight delays, the related minister must issue a regulation that obliges airlines to give inconvenienced passengers compensation in the form of snacks, meals or hotel accommodation if the delay is more than 12 hours.

This regulation is very much needed to encourage the airline's departures to be on-time.

The government needs to enforce the regulation on the lifespan of airplanes rather than make a new regulation on compensation for flight delays. It's better for the passengers that they are traveling safely.

I support enforcing such a regulation because many airlines don't provide customers with their best service in the event of flight delays.

Such compensation should be enforced. It's for the reputation of our country. It will be a regulation to increase the standards of our airline services.

There are currently two airline services. The first is budget airlines and the second is premium airlines. The compensation regulation should be enforced on the second, not the budget airlines.

Passengers who want to pay more for services deserve this compensation, but not the passenger with price concern. They should follow the airline's regulation.

Given the present airline situation, we should not bother airline companies too much. We should support them in any way we can.

I think the Indonesian government has been setting double standards lately. Maybe it's a trend to look good to both parties while at the same time making it seem like one is responsible.

Why issued a decree that you know is never going to be enforced? The existing law itself is seldom enforced. The funny thing is that many Indonesians can still be led by such empty promises.

Airlines should act fairly by providing compensation for any possibility of loss caused by a delay to the passenger. Rights and obligations should be equal.
