Students on Tuesday continued their protests in front of the House of Representatives compound, demanding legislators pay attention to the death of their colleague and reject the fuel price hikes.
Metro TV reported that the protesters, who stayed overnight in the location, vowed not to stop their demonstration.
Maftuh Fauzi of the National University, who protested the fuel price hikes on May 24, died last Friday after he was released from police jail and received medical treatment from the
Christian University Hospital and then the Pertamina Hospital.
Doctors at the Pertamina Hosptial declared that he died from HIV/AIDS, but many suspect his death was from being beaten by police officers during the May 24 protest.
The TV station also reported that hundreds of students across the country staged a demonstration against the fuel price hikes at the Proclamation Monument. (***)
