JAKARTA: Popular talk show host Farhan has called on his fellow celebrities and the public to campaign against drugs on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls on June 26.

Farhan suggested the public turn their motorcycle and car lights on from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the day as a sign of their support in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking, as reported by Detik.com.

The 38-year-old told the portal he once witnessed a child sell drugs for a drug trafficker. He said he was so angry he wanted to punch the trafficker, but refrained from doing so as he feared for his life.

The broadcaster of Radio Delta FM's Deltanesia morning show has long been active in campaigning against drugs, together with Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB).

Farhan, whose face is still seen on ANTV's Taksi Selebriti game show, has also been active in spreading awareness of bird flu since he was appointed as a bird flu ambassador by the United Nations Children's Fund in 2006. -- JP
