I’ve never really understood the basics of gender bias, why I was granted some privileges and freedoms simply through an accident of birth. It’s especially confounding when it comes to the workplace, that people who bring the same talent and skills to the table don’t get the same remuneration.
Times are changing, though, with the young generation of young women – the subject of this month’s cover story -- standing up to be counted. These women have been empowered by the changes that have occurred in gender relations in recent decades, as well as the knowledge brought by the cyber era. Although there are still battles to be fought, including in the workplace, young women today have greater options than their predecessors.
This issue is an homage of sorts to women and the contributions they make to society. Hopefully, one day, the issue will not be about he or she, but what we as individuals contribute to society.
