A woman died after she fell from a room on the eighth floor of the Allson Hotel in Senen, Central Jakarta, on Friday afternoon.

"We cannot confirm the cause of death right now, but we suspect she committed suicide," said criminal unit chief at Senen Police, First Insp. Aryono.

He said speculations of the cause of death, including murder, were still being investigated.

Noni, 36, was a married woman who lived in Cianjur, West Java.

Aryono said police suspected she fell from room 804, the only room that had an opened window on the eighth floor.

Police searched the room and found five men who said they were hotel guests.

"They said they came from Lampung, Sumatra, and were in Jakarta on business," he said.

Police were still questioning the five men and three security guards.

"When we searched the room, we did not find cosmetics or any female bags which may belong to the woman, but we found some long hairs," Aryono said.

Police took the bed sheets and the hairs from the room to the city forensic center lab for further investigations.

Gunawan, one of the security guards, said he did not know much about the incident as he guarded the residence, not the hotel.

He confirmed the woman was not a resident of the apartment building because he recognized everybody who lived in the apartment building.

Aryono said he questioned the hotel receptionists and found that Noni was not a hotel guest.

"She was not an employee of the hotel either," he said.

He said police would go to Cianjur to find her family and hoped they could find out more for the investigation.

Noni's body was taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in the afternoon. No friends or family have turned up to the hospital to claim her body.

A forensics expert at the hospital, Mun'im Idris, said he was still waiting for the family members to come before performing a complete autopsy.

"I have taken a urine sample and examined it. There are no drugs in the urine," he said.

He said he found indications of physical irregularities on many parts of the body but could not confirm whether they were from physical abuse or from the fall.

"I cannot explain anything about how she got the bruises," he said.

A woman died of severe head injuries and broken bones by jumping from the 14th floor of her Allson Residence apartment on April 30 last year.

Nur Asmah, 50, allegedly committed suicide because she was troubled from having a bone disease, from which could not recover. (ind)
