President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed hope that state-owned banks could disburse a total of Rp 14 trillion (US$1.5 million) in People's Business Credits (KUR) as targeted in 2008.
A total of Rp 7 trillion has been disbursed since the KUR scheme was launched in Nov. 2007, the President said in his address at the commemoration of the 15th National Family Day here
Sunday.
"I hope this year we can do our best to disburse all Rp 14 trillion so the credit can reach many more people," he said, adding that the plan would be continued in 2009 with greater government guarantee.
Yudhoyono also asked the state-owned banks which have been supporting the KUR -- namely BRI, BNI and Bank Mandiri -- to inform people of how to get KUR.
By distributing more business credits, the President said he hoped the real sector of the economy could be developed and reduce poverty and unemployment.
Also at the commemoration, Bank BRI distributed Rp 85.8 billion in credit to 9,995 debtors in Jambi province, BNI distributed Rp 25.7 billion to 265 debtors and Bank Mandiri distributed Rp 5.3 billion to 34 debtors.
