President swears in Navy's chief of staff

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono swore in Vice Admiral Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno as the new Navy chief of staff replacing Admiral Sumardjono, Elshita radio reported.

The ceremony, which was held in the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, was also attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, and several cabinet ministers.

Admiral Sumardjono had been held the position since Nov. 2007, while Vice Admiral Tedjo Edi was the Indonesian military's chief of staff of general affairs.(**)
