The 3,000-passenger KM Awu ferry leaves Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Thursday, bound for Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara, with well over 7,000 passengers on board. Many were forced to occupy cramped spaces along railings and lifeboats, while others did not board at all because of safety concerns. (JP/Andi Hajramurni)
