Thousands of overseas trees were destroyed Friday by the Soekarno-Hatta airport authorities for containing bacteria that attack local trees.

Elshinta radio reported the overseas trees were also illegal as they were not equipped with letters from their Agriculture Ministry.

Wisnantono, an official at the airport, said the overseas trees would hurt local farmers should they be allowed to enter Indonesia. (***)
