A 30-meter-tall statue of Jesus, billed to be the tallest in Asia, stands atop a hill in Manado, North Sulawesi. The monument’s base is inscribed with the provincial slogan Torang Samua Basudara (We are all brothers and sisters). The monument was constructed to appear as though Jesus were blessing Manado and welcoming people to the city, whose authorities want to turn it into a world-class tourist destination by the year 2010.
