PLN will hold blackouts in Jakarta and its vicinity for two weeks

Due to maintenance, state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will hold a partial blackout around Jakarta and its vicinity from July 11 to July 25, Elshinta radio has reported.

Deputy head of communication at PLN Jakarta Tangerang Azwar Lubis told Elshinta on Monday that the blackout could not be avoided because of the maintenance period for pipeline supplying gas to Muara Karang and Tanjung Priok power plants.

He said that most of the power supply system of PLN' power plants in Jakarta had been replaced with the oil fuel system but there were some 150 Megawatts-powerplants that could not be replaced, so PLN has to hold the blackout.

The blackout will be held on weekdays between 8 a.m to 5 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be no blackout over the weekend.(**)
