Shanty has high hopes for film fest

JAKARTA: Actress and singer Shanty will fly to Prague, Czech Republic, to attend the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where her film, The Photograph (2007), is being screened in competition.

"I'm so happy that my film can take part in the competition. It means that it is good enough to compete with films from around the world. I will do my best to promote it and I really hope we win in one of the categories. Just wish me luck," Shanty said before her departure.

The festival, one of the most prestigious in Eastern Europe, runs from July 4 to 12.

The Photograph, directed by Nan Achnas, follows the life of a bar hostess and prostitute named Sita (played by Shanty), who builds a strange relationship with a photographer, Johan (Lim Kay Tong), after he saves her from being attacked by drunken men.

The film was bought by Epicentre Film for distribution in France and Movie Bobz in Brazil during the Cannes Film Festival in May.

It has also been screened at the Pusan International Film Festival (2007), the Berlin Film Festival in February and the Singapore Film Festival in April. JP/Ary Hermawan
