SMS: Arrest of terrorist suspects

Terrorism can happen anywhere, in all parts of the world, including Indonesia. I salute the Indonesian authorities and ordinary people for the arrests of those terrorists.

But I am also suspicious as I think the arrests were made for the political gain of the government, to make people forget what's really going on in this country. If the 10 arrested are really terrorists, let them speak to the press.

Australia tried to warn Indonesia about Jamaah Islamiyah (JI), but it took the 2002 Bali bombing to make the police believe the danger was real, which was too late to save lives. Indonesia is still at risk for more attacks and it will not end until people stop hiding and protecting these idiots.

The danger has been proven with the number of bomb blasts in many places in Indonesia: Bali, Jakarta, Makassar, etc. The police must take the existence of these terrorists seriously because they have sophisticated explosive devices. And the police must also arrest other terrorists before they kill more people.

Terrorists in Indonesia can be held in check if the police and the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) do their jobs properly.

Since terrorists have unfairly allied themselves with Muslims, I think, as a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia can potentially become the base for a terrorist network. This may happen due to the lack of attention to national security.

Terrorist activities in Indonesia still pose a danger. But these arrests are a good start. We all should cooperate to fight terrorism in our country.

Of course, the presence of a terrorist network poses a danger to Indonesia. It also affects our economy because there will be fewer foreign investors and tourists. That is why I totally agree with fighting terrorism seriously. They should be given severe punishment, subject to even the death penalty.
