Senior singer Ahmad Albar, 62, on Friday was released from jail after serving more than seven months out of his eight-month jail sentence in a drug case.

Ahmad Albar, known as Iyek, left the Paledang penitentiary, Bogor, West Java at 11:10 a.m., escorted by Camelia Malik, Jelly Tobing, Ian Antono and Oddie Agam.

An official from the penitentiary said Iyek deserved a parole release after serving two-third of his jail term. However, he would be required to report to the penitentiary regularly.

Iyek was sentenced to eight months in jail for hiding a drug trader Jenny Chandra in his house and possessing ecstasy pills. (***)
