Former Army Special Force (Kopassus) chief and son-in-law of the late former president Soeharto, Prabowo Subianto, on Monday was declared a 2009 presidential candidate by the Great Indonesia
Movement Party (Gerindra Party).
"We nominated him as our presidential candidate on Saturday," Gerindra Party chairman Suhardi said Monday.
Just before his nomination as a presidential candidate, Prabowo resigned from Golkar Party, where he served as an advisory council member.
Prabowo said Gerindra Party suited his vision to deliver socialism rather than capitalism to Indonesia. (***)
