Eight of 34 political parties in Central Sulawesi on Monday failed to attend and sign a declaration on peaceful campaigning in the run up to next year's general election.
Central Sulawesi General Election Commission (KPUD) spokesman Adam Malik said leaders of the parties were allowed to sign the declaration at the KPUD office the following day.
"The important thing is that the political parties know how to stage a peaceful campaign and to respect other participants of the general election," Adam Malik said here on Monday.
The parties failing to sign the declaration were the National Concern Working Party (PKPB), the New Indonesia Struggle Party (PKIB), the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Marhaenism Indonesian National Party (PNIM), the Indonesian Democratic Upholding Party (PPDI), the National Democratic Party (PDK), the Peaceful and Prosperous Party (PDS) and the Indonesian Populist Bull National Party (PNBKI).
The leaders of the political parties which were present on the occasion put their signatures on a giant banner, declaring that they would stage peaceful campaigns in Central Sulawesi.(**)
