The administration is acquiring 47 hectares of land to build a section of the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) toll project, linking Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, to Ulujami, South Jakarta.
Deputy Governor Prijanto said Tuesday the city would leave the acquisition to teams from West Jakarta and South Jakarta municipalities, to simplify matters.
"The Public Works Ministry expects the administration to establish a provincial land procurement committee as this involves two municipalities, West Jakarta and South Jakarta, but we think the two teams can handle it," he said at City Hall, after a meeting with ministry officials.
He said if any major conflict arose, then Governor Fauzi Bowo or he himself would solve it.
The Rp 1.9 trillion (US$207.72 million) project, which is part of the JORR project, is being resumed by city-owned property and infrastructure firm PT Jakarta Propertindo and state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga, according to Wijaya Seta, an official dealing with land procurement at the ministry's highways directorate general.
Jasa Marga controls 65 percent of the project's shares and Jakarta Propertindo 35 percent, he said.
The project was frozen for 10 years after the 1997 economic crisis.
Wijaya said the 7.6-kilometer project would need 47 hectares in land acquisition.
"We're now measuring the locations we plan to acquire and will soon move to mapping and property inventory," he said.
"We expect the (Kebon Jeruk-Ulujami) toll road will start operation by the end of 2009."
The project, Prijanto said, would help ease traffic in the city, as it will connect the Jakarta-Serpong toll road and the Penjaringan-Kebon Jeruk toll road, which are part of the JORR project.
The Penjaringan-Kebon Jeruk toll road, which is under construction and expected to commence operation by the end of this year, will connect to Jl. Prof. Dr. Ir. Sedyatmo, a main access road to the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
