Glenn Fredly hits the streets again with his latest album, titled Private Collection. He showcases his ability to write a few new songs, and with this album, to re-interpret his older songs.
Glenn, whose full name is Glenn Fredly Deviano Latuihamallo, released his first solo album, GLENN, in 1998 with the help of senior producer Aminoto Kosin. Despite his 10-year career, much of his sound has not changed radically.
There are twelve songs here. Aminoto is still at the helm of arranging Glenn's love tunes.
Glenn's fans should already be familiar with a heap of the songs in here. The new songs are "Terserah" and "Hikayat Cinta".
His duet with dangdut sensation Dewi Perssik in "Hikayat Cinta" is memorable, although the sing would have been much more interesting if the music had leant more to Dewi Perssik's raunchy style rather than Glenn's.
"Pada Satu Cinta", one of Glenn's signature songs when performing live, has Glenn singing at his best. The lyrics to this song also help it a great deal.
In "Januari", Glenn collaborates with the legendary Kenny G. Kenny's saxophone sound fits nicely into the song. There is a sense many of Glenn's ballads were made for Kenny G, who admits that he still practices two hours a day to keep his sax tone right.
This collection of songs functions as a launching pad for Glenn's summer tour of Indonesia. Odds are good most of the songs in this album will feature heavily in his tour.
