JAKARTA: Actress-cum-singer Julia Perez, who recently released a dangdut album titled Belah Duren (Tearing Durian), has been admonished for baring her back while performing in Madiun, East Java.
"It was a critique that will help me improve," Jupe, as she is usually called, was quoted as saying by detikhot.com.
She played down rumors that her sensual act was banned in the region and that she was facing a similar ill-fate that has befallen her fellow dangdut artists like Inul Daratista, whose concert in Kuala Lumpur was recently canceled for an obscure reason, and Dewi Persik, who was banned from staging a concert in Tangerang and Bandung.
Sales for her latest album have exceeded 30,000 copies.
Despite negative public perceptions, Jupe insists that nothing is wrong with her appearance.
"What can I do? I can't have my neighbor replace me on stage," the 28-year-old laughed. --JP
