Forum: Children National Day

If the country can afford to have a powerful yet pointless Religious Affairs Ministry, whyshe afford to have a ministry to look after the powerless but all important people who represent our future?

Children have no vote and little voice. Who will protect the street children from exploitation? Who will ensure that all children get the chance of a good and free education and proper health care?

Who will protect them from their parents who carry them in their arms on motorbikes? Who will ensure they have proper nourishment? Who will ensure that children can have the most important thing of all - their childhood without work or the stress of responsibility?

Give the voiceless a voice and the powerless power to protect themselves and safeguard the future of the nation.

Maybe the leaders forget that they were once children and that someday, these children of today will be this country's leaders. Without help, children can be pawns for anyone. To start educating children, is to start giving them a voice.

To neglect even one child, is to neglect a potential leader. Unfortunately, leaders in power often forget that they were once children, and that someone, somewhere gave them a helping hand to achieve their fortunes today. They will never learn from their mistakes today, and will regret it a thousand times later.

Internet connection

Pricing of internet connections is sky high. It should be addressed by The Jakarta Post.

I am a customer of a state-owned provider. I pay Rp 570.000 per month including tax for unlimited access. This includes a modem they say is a volume-based service that goes at a dazzling speed - broadband.

Forget it. I get only modem speeds and have to use the time-based option in their software to get full speed, but have to pay another Rp 350 per minute for this option.

And 50 percent of the websites on the Internet are blocked by the provider if you use the volume-based service.

If you go back to the time-based service, everything is normal again. Sure, I pay for this again at Rp 350 per minute on top of my monthly bill.

They are just stealing money from the public. Try to call customer service. What a joke. You won't get connected and if you do after 600 calls they throw you out as they don't speak English. What a big joke. It is criminal to steal money this way.

My bet for generalized mobile Internet access in Indonesia is on wireless Internet. Five years from now, it may very well be that the many folks in rural Indonesia will use their mobile handsets as primary Internet access devices.

All major operators are planning for it. The reason: theyneed to spend on new digital subscriber line (DSL) infrastructure, and instead they upgrade their existing wireless infrastructure.

As handset prices decrease, a handset will compete with a computer. You get a smaller screen and cumbersome input but gain mobility. If you really need, at times, computer Internet access, then you go to the local Internet cafe.

Animal exploitation should be prosecuted! Orangutans need to be conserved as wild animals in their natural habitat and are not pets or toys.

Poor you, baby, but who should be responsible for your condition? Your parents, situation, condition or somebody else?

I hope you find a good solution.

If you are going to edit out what I actually called the Department of Religious Affairs (which rather proves how powerful they are) that's fair enough, but please don't remove words which are necessary to make sense of what I wrote.

What I said, was: If the country can afford to have a powerful yet pointless [Department of Religious Affairs] then why can't she afford to have a ministry to look after the powerless but all important people who represent our future?
