CILACAP, Central Java: The Cilacap District Court announced Thursday the Supreme Court had rejected a final appeal by the convicted Bali bombers to have their case reopened.
Chief judge Manahan Sitompul said the Supreme Court's rejection letter had been received at Batu Prison, where Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Mukhlas are being held as they await execution.
"A court team has just come back from the prison after handing over the rejection letter sent to us by the Supreme Court through the Denpasar District Court, where the three stood trial," he said.
Manahan stressed that with the Supreme Court's rejection letter, the three had no more legal avenues to take and could only await their execution by firing squad.
The men were found guilty of the 2002 bombings of nightclubs on the resort island which killed 200 people, mostly overseas tourists.
"Now we're just waiting for an announcement of the execution date, which will be set by the Denpasar Prosecutors Office," Manahan said. --JP
