INDONESIA: Indonesia and Australia will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) allowing Indonesian students to work in Australia using tourist visas, during the next ministerial forum in Australia.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said Thursday the MoU was initially expected to be signed on Wednesday, but was pushed back to November, and not to early next week, as reported on page 2 of The Jakarta Post's Thursday edition.
"We have confirmed the signing will not take place early next week, but hopefully in November, during the Australia-Indonesia Ministerial Forum in Australia," he said.
After meeting with Australian Immigration and Citizenship Minister Chris Evans and Home Minister Bob Debus here Wednesday, Justice and Human Rights Minister Andi Mattalata said the agreement would allow for Indonesian students to work in Australia for three or four months while on holiday. -- JP
