The police have arrested Australian fugitive Robert Jams Nice in Banda Aceh, Aceh Nagroe Darusalam, and will soon deport him back to his country where he will be tried for fraud.

"This morning at approximately 9.45 p.m, the fugitive was flown from Aceh to Jakarta. He will soon be deported to Australia," National Police spokesperson Ir. Gen. Abubakar Nataprawira told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Abubakar said that Nice, who had been a fugitive for five years, was arrested at a hotel in Aceh on Tuesday and that there was no record of when he entered Indonesia.

The arrest, he said, was at the request the Australian Federal Police, which issued a red notice to Interpol in July 2003 and sent an arrest request letter to the National Police.

"We will deport him as soon as the administration process is completed," Abubakar Said. (and)
