JAKARTA: It seems that newcomers in the music industry, including rising R&B singer Afghan Syah Reza, will dominate the MTV Indonesian Awards 2008.
The award committee announced in a press conference at Hard Rock Caf* on Friday that Afghan was nominated in two categories: Most Favorite Male and the Most Popular Breakthrough Artist.
The 19-year-old singer, who is also a student of the University of Indonesia's School of Economics, recently produced an album, which included the hits "Terima Kasih Cinta" (Thank You Love) and "Sadis" (Sadist).
Besides Afghan, the committee said new comer RAN was also nominated also in two categories: Most Favorite Band and The Most Popular Breakthrough Artist, okezone.com reported.
Other singers and bands were nominated in the single's category, including Gita Gutawa, Rossa and Bunga Citra Lestari (Favorite Female), Tompi, Ari Lasso and Once (Favorite Male), and Andra and the Backbone, Nidji, Yofie and the Nuno and the Changchuters (Favorite Band).
Winners of the award will be announced and aired on TV at the Jakarta Convention Center in September. -- JP
