The Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday ordered two government bodies and another organization to announce the brand of baby formula milk contaminated with the Enterobacter Sakazaki bacteria.

The court granted the request of David M. L. Tobing, who demanded that the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), Foods and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and the Health Ministry reveal the contaminated formula milk brand.

"I here by sentence the defendant guilty of violating the law and sanction the defendant to announce the research result by naming the brand of the baby formula milk contaminated by the bacteria in mass and electronic media," said head judge Reno Listowo, as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.

Research by IPB carried out from April to June 2006 shows that 22 percent of baby formula milk brands in the country had their products contaminated by the bacteria, which can cause serious illness in infants and even death.

The BPOM announced in April the results of its analysis of 96 infant formula brands registered with the agency, saying they were all free of contamination by the bacteria.

David, who is a lawyer, filed the case to the court out of concern of the safety of his children whom consume baby formula milk.
