JAKARTA: It appears that actor-cum-politician Dede Yusuf prefers to stay in local resident's homes rather than hotels while on official business in West Java.
During a visit to a village in Sukabumi on Thursday, the 42-year-old deputy governor slept on the floor of a local resident's home after the bed prepared for him to sleep in broke.
"For the first time in my life, I saw a deputy governor willing to stay in the home of a local resident," the head of Cikahuripan village, Aji Marfudin, was quoted as saying by Antara.
Marfudin expressed hope that other state officials, including ministers, the Vice President and the President himself could follow Dede's example.
Dede Yusuf, who is also a member of the House of Representatives, was in Sukabumi for a tour that included visits to a fishing harbor, hot springs and the Citarik steam power plant, all in Pelabuhan Ratu, West Java.
Earlier this month, Dede also stayed with local residents during a visit to a limestone home industry in Kertayasa village in Ciamis regency, some 390 kilometers from Bandung. -- JP
