YOGYAKARTA: In order to further technology-based education, the Medical School of Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta launched a health website, Cyber Med FK-UGM, on Thursday.

A 24-hour download competition helped publicize the launch. Participants competed in collecting health journal links to populate the new website. The event was organized by the Medical School in cooperation with privately run computer hardware company PT Acer Indonesia.

The World Wide Web contains around 7,000 health journals which inform readers on everything from how to lead a healthy life to coping with disease.

"We hope the Web will help us access information and find learning materials," said Lisa Sulisya, a student.

The medical school's dean Hardyanto Subono said the website competition and launch aimed to introduce technology to its students.

He said the presence of the health website would improve the quality of education by enabling students and lecturers to access new information easier and faster.

"We want to set up class activities based on e-learning with this website.... We're sure the Web will help students better access learning materials," Hardyanto said. --JP
