UN special envoy to Myanmar, Ibrahim Gambari, on Wednesday met with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the State Palace in Jakarta.
A presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said that during the 45-minute meeting, Gambari explained his visit to Myanmar last week to the President.
"The President gave suggestions and a response," Dino said, as reported by Tempointeraktif.com, after the meeting.
Dino said the President hoped the a dialogue between Aung San Suu Kyi and the Myanmar government, which ended in January, would recommence.
The President also expected that Gambari would visit Myanmar more in the light of the country's general election in 2010. He said the UN and other countries in the region play important role in building Myanmar's credibility in its road map to democracy.
"The President also promised to maintain correspondence with Myanmar's Snr. Gen. Tan Shwe," Dino said.
The spokesman also said that Gambari refused to give detailed information about his visit in Myanmar, saying that he had to report it first to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in Turin, Italy. (dre)
