MEDAN: The Aceh provincial administration have brought home 10 Acehnese fishermen after serving jail terms in the neighboring Indian territory of the Nicobar Islands for allegedly stealing fish, an Aceh official said Monday.
"The fishermen returned home Sunday. The Aceh provincial administration covered all the costs," said Cut Ida, a staffer of the Aceh representative office in Medan.
The office head, Muklis Aziz, said the fishermen were returned home after being jailed for two years.
"Indian maritime security authorities accused them of stealing fish in Indian waters," he said.
"The fishermen, however, were simply stranded after being hit by bad weather." -- JP
