The three men sentenced to death for their involvement in the first Bali bombing met their families in prison on Thursday following the postponement of their executions.
A total of 62 people visited Amrozi, Ali Gufron and Imam Samudra at the Batu penitentiary on Nusakambangan island, accompanied by their team of lawyers, known as the Muslim Defenders Team.
"We are thankful we can finally make this visit before the fasting," said team leader Achmad Midan, referring to the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
The families were escorted by the police's special mobile brigade. Each visitor was examined thoroughly for dangerous substances or other unwanted materials before crossing to the island from Cilacap port at 11.40 p.m.
The attorney general did not carry out the execution before the fasting month as planned. Two main reasons are understood to be behind the delay: failure to complete the necessary paperwork to carry out the penalty and humanitarian considerations allowing the three terrorists to participate in what will be their last holy month. I do not understand the balance of morale in this, the long overdue execution is delayed du to humanitarian considerations. Did these animals have humanitarian considerations when the pressed the triggers?
In my view they should just be shot in a dirty back alley and given to the rats.
