South Sumatra outlaws Ahmadiyah

Khairul Saleh ,  The Jakarta Post ,  Palembang   |  Mon, 09/01/2008 3:59 PM  |  National

South Sumatra governor Mahyuddin N.S. on Monday issued a decree banning Islamic minority sect Ahmadiyah and any activities of the Indonesian Jamaah Ahmadiyah (JAI) organization from the region.

Mahyuddin said the decree was made in accordance with a joint- ministerial decree issued earlier this year ordering the sect to stop all religious activities or face charges for blaspheming Islam.

South Sumatra is the second region to outlaw the sect after West Sumatra.

In the decree, the governor also ordered the local Religious Affairs Agency and the High Prosecutors' Office to coordinate and take necessary measures in accordance with the ban.

The governor said the decision to ban Ahmadiyah was taken after a meeting between the regional administration, Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Raden Patah State Islamic Institute, Religious Affairs Agency, prosecutors' office, police and several Islamic organizations. (dre)

If God asks me a question "Who am I to you?", then He wants me to fully understand that how I perceive of Him is simply a personal matter, meaning I am not endowed to push people around when learning that their perception is different from mine.

But different answers to the question are an insult to these people. These God's who claim they have always known God better. They come down from their high, rushing to pulverize those who would dare to interpret it differently.

Unfortunately, the government has not been decisive in this matter; it seems it’s best to leave it in the God’s appointees' hand.

Dear Editor,
Jakarta Post.

It is not the matter of defending Ahmadiyya, rather, it is a matter of restraining others from commiting atrocities an injustices, these so called mainstream or hard-liner muslim have adopted or behave themselve exactly according to the earlier people pattern, that is to say, they believe in using force to oppress the truth, please ponder again what is stated in the Quraan, how did the earlier prophets been treated? how did the earlier people behave? what did the earlier people told the earlier prophets? they told them (prophets Lot,Shuaib,Salleh, noah etc) that if they don't stop preaching, WE WILL STONED YOU!! this is the pattern of NON BELEIVER, they always beleive in using force and violent, so whatelse can the Ahmadiyyah say about them when they themselve behave in such a pattern, believer? or muslim?

The Lahore Ahmadiyya group change their stand, earlier on they accepted Hazrat Ahmad claimed prophethood in his capacity as The Promised Imam Mahdi and Messiah, nontheless, they could have scummb to the pressure and declared that Hazrat Ahmad is not a prophet but merely a mujjadid, yet and yet, they are being rejected and not accepted as muslim by the hard-liner the so called mainstream, they are being decree as kafir as well along with the Qadian branch, so this so called mainstream muslim no longer beleive in the hadith about the coming of mujjadid at every turn of century, in future, anyone who comes to claim as mujjadid will be rejected and decreed as kafir.

Yes! the Sunnis and Shia are both believe in Khattam Nabiyyin, yet, the fact is they are fighiting and killing each other over the difference in their believe with regard to the issue of Khulaffa Rashyidah, now both have turned to become non-believer, while one party beleive in the leadership of Abu Bakar,Omar and Othman, the other party rejected them and only believe in Hazrat Ali leadership, both parties have adopted or emulate the earlier people pattern that is BELEIVE IN USING FORCE.

All those defending Ahmadiyah should know that the Ahmadis, especially those of the Qadiani branch or in Indonesia the Jamaah Ahmadiyah Indonesia (JAI), have declared that those who do not acknowledge Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's prophethood as non-Muslims. Have the Ahamdis' defender consider this fact?

Another branch, the Lahore branch in Indonesia the Gerakan Ahmadiyah Indonesia (GAI) or Movement, claimed that Ahmadis do not consider MGA as prophet but a mere mujaddid or reformer. Therefore, they do not claim other Muslims as non-Muslims. It is just fine as many sects or groups in Islam also have their own revered teachers or wali or saints or whatever.

But never this groups claim another person as a prophet as Prophet Muhammad SAW is the Seal of Prophets. Khatamul nabiyyin.

So there is no reason to ban Shiah Muslims as they consider Prophet Muhammad as the last prophet although Shiah also highly revere the imams of the Ali lines. NO problem for SUnnis.

ANyone who is trying to pit Sunni against Shiah is really trying to break the rank of Islam with neocolonialism and neoimperialism mindsets. While granted there are enmity between Sunnis and Shias, it is the product of the Western colonialism.

Ahmadiyah is a truly different case. If Ahmadis are willing to form a new religion, it will be most welcomed and there will be not resistance. Just like Christians break away from Judaism with a touch of Paganism here and there. Both Christians and Jews share the Taurat aka Old Testament while Christians also have their own book the Injil aka the New Testatement.

Otherwise, drop the claim that MGA is another prophet.

Islam has its own teachings and doctrines which may not be similar to those of other religions. Islam is never involved in any other religions' dogmatic battle. So non-Muslims should stay away.

And for those Muslims defending Ahmadiyah, you should consider again your faith. Im may not be an examplary MUslim but I cannot tolerate any efforts to taint Islam.

The Editor,
Jakarta Post.

Seems that things never really change with the attitude
of mainstream muslim cleric towards Ahmadiyya muslim sect.

The keep on projecting themselve as an idiot, thinking
that if the succeded to annihilate Ahmadiyya by force,
people at large will accept their leadership. Indeed,
these sort of cleric derserve to discarded as filthy
garbages.

What...? banning Ahmadiyah ?

You should introspect your self. Are really the good believers? You 're even worse than the prostitute if you are corruptor, becouse prostitude sells their own body, but you still from your country.

Open your eyes and don't be narrow mainded. God is not as stupid as you are so He doesn't need your advocation to defend his true way...Who knows that ahmadiah is the true one, all of us just "believe" we ae are the true one, and so does the Ahmadiah. So what's different?

This article expresses that lack coordination among institutions is still happened in Indonesia. Practically, there is no sanction for doing lack coordination among institutions. I am not sure whether they realize or not that lack coordination among institutions in every levels would gradually threaten the unity and diversity of Indonesian people. No one can be blamed cause no one knows or admit who the first is doing lack coordination.

Everyday I pick up the Jakarta Post, as it is in English, and read page after page of articles about corruption, graft, religious indifference, human rights violations, etc. conducted by the "powers who may be" of Indonesia.

After reading about South Sumatra outlawing Ahmadiyah today, I decided to read Wikipedia's English version of Indonesia's Constitution. I quickly discovered that, in the 3 years I have resided in Indonesia, local and central government figures, individually and collectively, have violated almost every line of the constitution. Sumatra officials (West and South) have merely violated this constitution again. (Chapter X,Chapter XI)

How long will Indonesians, ALL Indonesians, continue to tolerate their constitution to be trod upon by their government representatives? Is the constitution not a sacred and integral part of this country's existence?

The outlawing of Ahmadiyah is CLEARLY a violation of this constitution and therefore is ILLEGAL. If Ahmadiyah is outlawed than why not outlaw ALL religions in Indonesia besides Islam as they are all in violation of the Qu'Ran and Mohammed's teaching.

Sharia by-laws, corruption by government officials, discrimination (religious and cultural), ALL acts that occurred in 1998, sweeping, police brutality, illegal voting in elections, and on and on and on. All have occurred in my 3 years here and ALL violate the constitution.

If the constitution holds no true legal value in Indonesia than why even have it. Rip it up and start over.

What's next? A ban on Shia Islam? A prohibition of sufism?

I myself disagree entirely with the teachings of the Ahmadiyah but it is for God to pass judgement on that.

Just what authority, legal or spiritual, does a regional governor have in deciding what individuals shall believe and how they shall worship? It is astonishing the lengths such 'leaders' will go to curry favour with elements of the electorate.

this act of governor should be follow by mr.SBY to show the world that mr. SBY are truely muslim and fight for muslim human rights

Is the governor empowered to do this? The joint ministerial decree only says that Ahmadiyah will "face charges", it doesnot say that it will (have to) be banned.

What's On
