JAKARTA: Penjaringan Police detained a man for stabbing his wife to death in their house in Penjaringan, North Jakarta on Monday.
The police said jealousy was behind the murder.
The incident began when the man, Nasrudin, 50, and his wife Hasna, 50, got into an argument, said crime division head of the Penjaringan Police, First Insp. Ali Yusron, as quoted in tempointeraktif.com.
Nasrudin accused Hasna of having an affair with another man. He then grabbed a knife on a table and stabbed his wife in the stomach twice.
Their five children screamed hysterically when they found Hasna's body lying on the floor. Nasrudin was later taken to the nearby police station.
In another incident, a dead body wrapped in plastic was found floating in Pesanggrahan River, West Jakarta, at about 9:30 a.m.
The body was a woman aged about 20 to 30 years, the police said. When the police found the body, it was wearing only a bra and a pair of socks. Her skin had peeled off and her hands were tied with plastic rope at her chest.
Kembangan Police head Comr. Barnabas estimated the woman had been killed a week ago. The body was later taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital's morgue for autopsy. -- JP
