An architecture bill to be deliberated by the House ofRepresentatives next year will set limitations on foreignarchitects and architecture firms.

"It is being considered. How the foreign architects will beregulated in the law will be discussed during the deliberation ofthe bill," Indonesian Architect Association (IAI) chairman BudiSukada said after a meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla atthe State Palace on Wednesday.

Budi said IAI proposed the bill to the House and was seekingsupport from the vice president and the Public Works Ministry.

"There will be certain requirements for an architect to workin Indonesia, particularly construction design responsibilitiesin relation to safety," Budi said.

He said the goal of the law was to ensure safety and to avoidaccidents occurring due to construction design failures, such aswhat happened in May when a car plunged from the sixth floor of amall in Jakarta after accidentally crashing onto a wall.

"Without a law governing the field of architecture, anyone canbe an architect. If so, who will be responsible when accidentshappen?"(and)
