Some 49 Indonesian auxiliary teachers from Sabah, Malaysia, sought to visit the vice president in Jakarta on Wednesday, seeking help on the future of their careers.
Damianus, one of the teachers, said they were contracted to work for two years in Sabah, but now after two years, there was no certainty about the job.
"I don't know how I will be. All we want is the government to consider our fate," said Damianus, who is originally from East Nusa Tenggara.
The teachers were promised Rp 6.03 million (US$663) salary each month in their contracts, but they were only paid Rp 4.9 million.
"They said it was for insurance and other fees," he said, who also explained that their work in Malaysia was a government-sanctioned program.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla, however, was unable to meet the teacher. Vice president special expert staff Alwi Hamu said the vice president was receiving another guest and he apologized to the teachers.
"The vice president said the problem will be taken into consideration and will be coordinated with the education minister," said Alwi. (dre)
