Police arrest armed drug dealer

The Central Jakarta Police arrested a drug dealer, Bud, on Jl. Pangeran Jayakarta in possession of thousands of ecstasy pills, a gun and 10 bullets.

The police confiscated 7,416 ecstasy pills (3,4-methylenedioxy methamphetamine) and two grams of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine).

"We also seized a revolver and 10 bullets. We believe the gun is illegal because we found no license," said the city police spokesman Sr. Comr. Ketut Untung Yoga Ana on Tuesday.

"We received the tip on Bud from four other drug dealers who had been arrested before."

He said the police first caught a suspect, L, when he was selling ecstasy pills at a nightclub in Cikini in Central Jakarta.

L admitted he had received the drugs from two dealers, V and AS, who lived on Jl. Pangeran Jayakarta, also in Central Jakarta.

Police later arrested them at their boarding house and seized 29 ecstasy pills. V and AS confessed they had gotten the pills from someone named AP, who was later caught for possession of 32 ecstasy pills.

"We found out about Bud after a string of investigations on AP. It was obvious Bud was the one who controlled this business," Ketut said.

He said police would charge him for violating the narcotics law and for illegal gun possession.

At the end of August, in cooperation with the Provincial Narcotics Agency and City Narcotics Agency, police raided houses on Jl. Menteng Tenggulun and Jl. Pegangsaan in Central Jakarta.

They arrested 17 people and confiscated 55 packages of narcotics, two packages of marijuana, a package of crystal shabu-shabu, 56 ecstasy pills, one electric scale, insulin, cash and a dagger.
