Two killed during religious ritual

At least two people were killed Sunday during Balimau Kasai, a ritual held in Riau to mark the beginning of the Ramadan fasting month by bathing in a river.

Niken Saputra, 33, and Sabrina, 16, two archery athletes who were taking part in training at Riau Students Supervision and Training Center, drowned in Kampar River in the village of Buluh Cina in Kampar regency.

The search and rescue team recovered Sabrina's body but failed to find Niken.

The two came to Buluh Cina with other athletes and their families to welcome Ramadan. --JP
