South Sumatra gubernatorial candidate Alex Noerdin and his running mate Eddy Yusuf, known as ALDY, are poised to win the gubernatorial election on Thursday with over 50 percent of votes, according to quick counts.
A quick count survey by Indonesian Survey Circle-Public Issues Network (LSI-JIP) shows that the ALDY pair won 51.22 percent of votes, while their opponent, Syahrial Oesman and Helmy Yahya (SOHE), collected 48.78 percent.
LSI-JIP collected the samples for the quick counts from 400 of around 14,500 polling booths.
Similarly, the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) found that the ALDY pair won by 51.20 percent of votes, while the SOHE pair booked 48.80 percent.
LSI took in samples from 500 polling booths.
As two quick counts came out with about the same results, Satria Darma of LSI-JIP predicted that the final result would not be so much different with those of the quick counts.
"We have never find so close a polling result," he told a press conference.
The pair of Alex Noerdin and Eddy Yusuf is supported by a coalition of three political parties, Golkar, the National Mandate Party and the Democratic Party.
Meanwhile, the SOHE pair is supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, the Prosperous Justice Party and the United Development Party. (dre)
