The Jakarta Police has asked citizens to be cautious of neighborhood brawls, which often increase during Ramadan, Tempointeraktif.com reported.

The city police Traffic Management Center has announced 12 areas
prone to local brawls. Those areas are:
- Pulogebang, Pulo Jahe, Stasiun Klender, and Cakung, in East Jakarta;
- Jl. Lenteng Agung, Jl. M.T. Haryono Pasar Minggu, and Warung Buncit in South Jakarta;
- Sawah Lio, Jl. Kramat Raya, Kemayoran, and Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta.

The police said that the highest increase of brawls occurred in East Jakarta.

Brawls often happen during the fasting month especially around the pre-dawn meal time when groups of youngsters hang out, play with firecrackers or recklessly speed around on their motorcycles. Tension between groups often build up into brawls.

The city traffic police plans to hold patrols with the help of the precinct offices in the areas in certain hours, including during fast-breaking times. (dre)
