JAKARTA: Former secretary of Jambi Administration Abdul Chalik Saleh on Wednesday testified that he received Rp 950 million (US$119,565), and not Rp 1.1 billion and US$5,000, from a dormitory contractor in Jakarta in 2003.

Abdul is on trial for alleged involvement in a graft case over the renovation of the province's representative office dormitory, and faces a possible 20 years in prison if convicted.

He said most of the time he only signed documents related to the project without knowing whether they complied with official procedures.

"I didn't know about the documents' procedure technically, I put my trust fully in my staff at the equipment bureau unit," he said.

Abdul admitted he only signed documents brought to him.

In the contract, he approved a price of Rp 32.4 billion proposed by contractor PT Cipta Pesona Usaha without attempting to negotiate. After the contract was signed, the company's owner gave him money in several installments, totaling Rp 950 million. -- JP
