A government minister says Thailand's Cabinet has agreed to hold a referendum on how to deal with the country's political crisis.

Culture Minister Somsak Kietsuranond says no date has been set for holding the public referendum.

He says the exact topic of the referendum remains unclear but "essentially" it will ask the people a range of questions. They include whether the government should resign, whether it should
dissolve the Parliament and what they think about the continuing protests against the government.

He told reporters Thursday that the Cabinet "just agreed in principle for now."

Prime Minister Samak Sundravej's government has been paralyzed by opponents who have occupied his office grounds since Aug. 26, demanding his resignation. (amr)
