DENPASAR: The Denpasar tourism office will deploy a joint team to certify security standards at non star-rated hotels in the city, to help provide better services to visitors, an official said Thursday.
Office head Putu Budiasa said the team to be deployed would consist of representatives of related offices and police officers.
The team will be entitled to issue certificates depending on grades hotels receive -- the highest of which will be a gold rating, second silver and last bronze, Budiasa said.
Besides guaranteeing security, he said, the certification would also help speed up development in the tourism industry.
The certification will cover various areas, including security, equipment, condition of buildings, software and training, he said.
The number of tourists had bounced back this year after the industry slumped following the 2002 Bali bombing attacks, Budiasa said.
"Occupancy rates of hotels in Bali this year have already reached 80 percent on average," he said.
According to the tourism office, there are 179 non star-rated hotels in Bali at present, of which 65 will be certified this year. -- JP
